December 3: Fall 2024 LifexCode Research Celebration
Women With a Vision joins the FL 2024 LxC Research Celebration
Come one, come all to the Fall ’24 LxC Research Celebration!Â
This fall, we respond to the moment and ground our celebration in a conversation with community organizers doing the work on the ground.Â
In partnership with Black World Seminar, we are excited to welcome Dr. Laura McTighe & Deon Haywood, Executive Director of Women With a Vision.Â
"Now in its 35th year, WWAV is widely regarded as a leading national voice fighting the criminalization of Black women and girls in the South. Human rights, sex-worker’s rights, reproductive justice, voting rights and ending mass incarceration are among its programs. The organization achieves its mission chiefly by focusing on grassroots advocacy and support. Haywood’s leadership as the executive director has been instrumental in addressing a wide range of critical issues affecting our communities." (Essence Magazine, 2024).Â
McTighe and Haywood will discuss their recently published book, Fire Dreams: Making Black Feminist Liberation in the South (2024).Â
We will then hear from members of the Community Knowledge Lab (Diaspora Solidarities Lab) and We Live Language Lab (Black Beyond Data) as they discuss final reports and on-going projects.
We’ve included the introduction to Fire Dreams: Making Black Feminist Liberation in the South for ease of access. If you can, we encourage you to check it out!
We will gather in Gilman 308 (JHU Homewood Campus) and online. Food will be provided.
Questions? Reach out to Dr. Brooke Lansing, LxC Project Manager, at cblansing@jhu.edu.
