Congratulations to the now Dr. Christina Thomas, LifexCode’s first Project Manager, and the now Dr. Brooke Lansing, LifexCode’s current Logistics Manager, on successfully defending their dissertations!!!!!
Dr. Thomas her dissertation titled “What Shall We Teach Our Students Who Are Black?: The Intellectual Biography Of Geraldine L. Wilson,” in History at JHU and was advised by Drs. Jessica Marie Johnson and Martha Jones. Thomas was the first Lead Editor and “Electrician” of Taller Electric Marronage and is an award-winning digital humanist/historian. She is the creator and PI of the Rachel Flowers Project (started at LifexCode and now moved to Messiah College), the Metropolitan United Methodist Church History Project, the #SayHerName Digital Memorial at Taller Electric Marronage, and has a long list of writing to her credit there and elsewhere. She is a co-founder of LifexCode: Digital Humanities Against Enclosure.
Dr. Lansing defended her dissertation titled “With the Strictest Confidence: Abortion in Nineteenth-Century New York City,” in History of Medicine at JHU and was advised by Dr. Mary Fissell. Since 2021, Lansing’s logistics support and maintaining has kept the lights on and the trains running at LifexCode!
