This event, we'll be joined by Dorothy Berry! Dorothy is the Digital Curator for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Her work is focused around information discovery and African American history, including everything from newspaper database research on the earliest mentions of African American concert music performances, to inventory design for the cosmetic kit of Hollywood's first Black woman makeup artist, to exhibit curation highlighting transatlantic art inspired by African American film.
The discussion will focus on "The House Archives Built," an article written by Dorothy Berry. "The House Archive Built" describes how the focus on liberating archives from physical institutions can disserve Black archival subjects. You can find it attached to this email. We encourage you to read it prior to the event and come with talking points and questions to add to the discussion!
