Hello Black Beyond Data Reading Group Members!
Thank you for signing up for the Black Beyond Data Reading Group, and thank you to those who attended our October discussion! Please join us on Friday, November 18th from 12pm to 1pm for our next event.
This time, we'll be joined by Dr. Autumn Womack! Dr. Womack is the Assistant Professor of the Department of English and African American Studies at Princeton University. She has received numerous awards and fellowships, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Rutgers University’s Department of English and a faculty fellowship at Penn State’s Center for the History of Information. Her research and teaching interests focus on late nineteenth and early twentieth-century African American literary culture, visual studies, and print culture.
The discussion will focus on Dr. Womack's book The Matter of Black Living: The Aesthetic Experiment of Racial Data, 1880-1930. You can find the introduction chapter attached here. We encourage you to read it prior to the event and come with talking points and questions to add to the discussion!
If you're interested in purchasing the full book, the University of Chicago Press has generously provided us with a 30% off discount code, which you can find here!
This virtual event will take place via Zoom. Sign up at this link!
We hope to see you all on Friday, November 18th!
